♡ ♡ ♡ ♡Here is a lovely little set of an antique photo and two beaded sautoir sashes that can be worn as necklaces, belts, or hair bands.
They date from the Edwardian era, circa 1910s, and are made from loom-beaded seed beads with tassels on the ends. One sash is a light turquoise blue & white, and the other is blue and white with a little bit of black and silver.
I bought this set from an antique store where they had been packaged together in a clear perspex case -- the hinge is broken on the case, but it will be included with the set. The photo measures 3.75" x 5 3/8", and as you can, the corners and margins were trimmed, presumably to fit inside the case. The photo is a cabinet card sepia-toned silver gelatin print, and when viewed from the side, there is a silver haze on the darker areas, most noticeable on her hair. The back of the photo has some old glue residue from being mounted inside an album.
Based on her hairstyle and dress, the photo dates from around 1908 to 1914, and it does look like she is wearing one of the sautoir belts as a headband, although I'm not sure if it's one of these belts or something similar. The band in her hair has a diamond weave design, like the belt with the black, and if you look closely underneath her chin and at the back of her neck below her hair, you can see a bit of haze which indicates the photo was touched up there. I think it very well could be one of these belts in her hair, with the longer tasseled ends edited out for aesthetic reasons.
Interestingly, I just had a Youtube video on this sort of thing pop up in my feed last week, with a lovely presentation given by Ms. Bernadette Banner on Victorian era photo manipulation that helpfully illustrates just how and also how often antique photos were touched up...I've included the link below in case you'd like to see it too.

Condition-wise, the sautoirs are in good antique condition but do show signs of age/use, as would be expected for something so old. The narrower belt (with just the blue & white) has a small section of bead loss, shown close-up in image 8 (I have since added some stitching to this area to help prevent further loss). This belt measures 1/4" wide with a 56" total length including the tassels. The other belt measures 3/8" wide and 60" long .. it is missing one narrow row of beads on one of the diamonds, also shown in image 8, and one of the tassels isn't as full as the other. There is also some darkening or discoloration on the foiled part of the larger beads directly above the tassel. The pictures say it best, so please click on them for a closer look, and if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help ♡
The set weighs just under 8 ounces unpackaged and ships via USPS...will be wrapped with care, boxed for safe travel, and mailed within one business day ♡
